Hokkaido, which consistently ranks high in the 'Prefectural Attractiveness Ranking' and 'Prefectures You Want to Visit Ranking,' is a popular tourist destination overflowing with vast nature and numerous local specialties. Although Hokkaido's winter is harshly cold, it is a popular area that attracts attention from around the world, offering ski resorts and activities where you can enjoy some of the world's finest snow, known as 'JAPOW' (powder snow), as well as hot springs, inns, and delicious winter cuisine.

Hokkaido can be reached in about an hour and a half by plane from Tokyo's Haneda Airport, and it is located at nearly the same latitude as Vladivostok, Russia. The average winter temperature is a harsh -1.9°C, with snowfall in Sapporo, Asahikawa, and Hakodate around 100 centimeters.

A coat with a hood is best for outerwear. If you wear a down jacket, don't forget a warm hat. A scarf and waterproof gloves are essential. Shoes with good traction, like snow boots, are recommended.

From New Chitose Airport to Sapporo Station, it takes about 40 to 50 minutes by train and about 1 to 1.5 hours by car, and access from the airport is very good.
Centered around Odori Park, Sapporo offers various tourist attractions such as the Sapporo Clock Tower, Nakajima Park, and Susukino, the largest entertainment district in Hokkaido. One of its highlights during winter is the underground walkway 'Chikaho,' which allows for snow-free travel. Additionally, there is a 101-passenger ropeway, the fastest in Japan, that takes you to the summit in a short time.

With a slope of up to 4,200m and an Ice Village made of ice, it offers a world of snow and ice that satisfies both children and adults. Over 80 activities, including hot air ballooning and fishing, are also popular.
