It was my first time, but I was able to catch it on my own with the help of a thorough teach!
The smelt tempura I caught was crispy and very tasty. I'm glad I was able to do it because I've wanted to do it for a long time!

The staff kindly gave us a gentle lesson, and we were able to catch a lot of smelt fish! Even though it was an unfamiliar area, they kindly provided transportation to and from the station, which was a huge help. Being able to eat delicious smelt fish was the best (*^o^*)

We experienced smelt fishing as a family for the first time. We participated on January 2nd, and the children were excited about the experience on the ice! As for the fishing results, the children caught 10 fish, while the parents caught none, but we had a great time! The tempura after fishing was so delicious that we wanted seconds, and we definitely want to sign up again when we visit Hokkaido next time.

I had a very valuable experience.
The weather in Hokkaido on the day was rainy, and to be honest, we were considering canceling, but as we approached Onuma Park, it changed to snow, and my spouse and I were thrilled!
I heard that it can be done in a greenhouse, but I decided to try it outside right away. The staff kindly taught me until I could catch fish by myself, and I caught a lot. Despite the cold and being hit by snow, I was so absorbed in fishing that I didn't mind it at all.
Although I got the fishing line tangled along the way, they quickly helped me and even showed me more spots where I could catch more fish.
The tempura at the end of the fishing trip also had green laver in it, and it was truly delicious.
It became the best memory in Hokkaido.

It was amazing to finally experience ice fishing for smelt, which had been a long-held dream. The staff were all very kind, and the tent was very warm. Even outside the tent, there was a free rental of bench coats, so I could enjoy it without feeling cold.
However, it was disappointing that the plan on Tabirai included tempura, but the shop said there was no such plan, so I had to pay for the tempura separately. What is going on with that...
But if I have the chance again, I definitely want to experience it again!!

We walked through the forest along the shores of Lake Onuma in winter on snowshoes, guided by a guide. Along the way, we did some bird watching and received explanations about nuts and plants. There was no one else but us, so we had the nature all to ourselves. Of course, it was a world of silver as far as the eye could see, and it was great in a different way from skiing. It's a route where you'd definitely get lost if you were alone, but with the guide, we could enjoy it with peace of mind. We also had photos taken at key points, which was nice.
